The CVEN4MN is the midrange of the CVEN family. It shares the 4″ platform of our concentric 4CN, but with one deliberate difference: there’s no tweeter in the centre of the cone. In its place is a plain PU dust cap, because sometimes you don’t want the tweeter living on the same axis as the mid.
In a proper active install, you want to put the tweeter exactly where it images best, aim it at the listener, and cross to it cleanly on its own terms. A coaxial can’t give you that — its tweeter goes wherever the mid goes. A dedicated midrange can. So we left this one as a single cone doing a single job: the midband.
It runs from around 110 Hz upward, so it meets a midbass below it without leaving a gap, and it’ll carry on up to 20 kHz as a wideband cone if you’d rather run it without a separate tweeter at all. It’s the flexible one — midrange in a three-way, or a compact full-range on its own.

One cone, one job
A dedicated midrange with nothing sharing its cone — so you place the tweeter yourself.
Because there’s no coaxial tweeter in the way, this driver gets on with the midband and nothing else, and you’re free to mount and aim a separate tweeter wherever it sounds right in the car. That’s the whole reason to choose a midrange over a coaxial in a serious build: the two jobs get done properly, each by a driver pointed where it needs to be, rather than compromised into one fixed spot.
It meets a midbass without a gap
A 113 Hz resonance lets it reach down and overlap cleanly with the driver below.
The low reach means there’s no awkward hole between this and a midbass beneath it — they meet in the middle and hand over smoothly. And with a high total Q, it has a gentle, slightly warm roll-off rather than an abrupt one, so it stays composed in a small sealed pod or an open baffle without needing a large enclosure built around it.
Two spiders keep the cone honest
A dual spider holds the cone straight even when it’s working hard.
One spider centres the cone; a second, set apart from it, stops it rocking or tipping as it moves. The cone travels cleanly in and out instead of wandering off-axis, which you hear as a tidier, less confused midband at volume.
A high-grade neodymium motor, kept compact
We used N45 neodymium so the motor stays small and light behind the cone.
N45 is a step up in magnetic grade, and it lets us keep the whole motor compact and shallow behind a 4″ cone. We’ll be straight about the trade-off: this driver is voiced for a smooth, even midband rather than maximum sensitivity, so it reads a little lower on paper than a high-output driver would. In an active system that’s a non-issue — the least sensitive driver sets the level and you pad the rest to match, and what you get in return is a midrange that stays clean and unforced.
Consistent output when it’s working
We wound the coil on an aluminium former so heat has an exit.
The same approach we use across the range. Paper and plastic formers trap heat in the windings until the coil compresses and the sound flattens; aluminium carries it straight out into the motor structure the moment it’s made. Over a long, loud listen, that’s what keeps the output where it started.
The numbers, and the build
60 watts RMS. 84 dB sensitivity. 110 Hz to 20 kHz.
Gold-plated terminals on a fibreglass board keep the connection solid for years, and an EVA gasket seals it properly to the mounting surface. It drops into the same 91 mm cut-out and 45 mm depth as our concentric 4″, so you can specify either across a range of installs without re-cutting anything. Nothing showy — just the parts that decide whether it still sounds right well down the line, done properly.
