We’re still on a high from Modified Nationals (Mod Nats). The team behind the event really knows how to put on a show, and this year was no exception. The weather certainly did its part too, with scorching temperatures across the weekend. For once, nobody could complain about the British summer.
As always, VIBE was right in the heart of the action, with our demo trailer taking its usual spot behind the DJ stage. It’s become something of a tradition for us now, and it puts us right in the middle of everything. From the moment the gates opened, there was a constant flow of people stopping by for demos, chatting with the team or simply taking a break in the shade before heading back out to explore.
Modified Nationals has always been about more than just parked cars. Yes, there are thousands of incredible builds spread across the showground, but it’s the atmosphere that keeps people coming back year after year. Everywhere you looked there was something happening. Live DJs, stunt planes carving through the skies, rally rides, monster truck displays, fire performers, character meet-and-greets, fairground rides and enough trade stands to keep even the most dedicated enthusiasts busy all weekend. It’s difficult to get bored when every corner of the venue has something going on.
Of course, we spent most of our time doing what we enjoy most: checking out the audio builds.
As usual, Mod Nats was packed with serious demo cars, and VIBE systems were out in force all weekend. Whether it was a daily driver with a carefully planned upgrade or an all-out competition build, it was great to see so many people choosing VIBE equipment to bring their projects to life.
One build that immediately grabbed our attention was Karl’s savage Audi. Hidden behind the clean exterior is an absolute monster of an installation featuring eight of the new BD 12-inch subwoofers mounted in a flat wall, backed up by BD PRO midrange speakers filling the doors.
The really interesting part, though, isn’t immediately obvious.
Karl has reinforced the roof of the car with solid concrete.
It sounds completely over the top, but there’s genuine engineering behind it. When you’re moving that much air inside a vehicle, the bodywork naturally wants to flex. Every panel that vibrates is energy that isn’t being converted into sound pressure. By making the roof substantially more rigid, more of that energy stays inside the cabin where it belongs. The result is higher pressure, more consistent demos and a vehicle that’s become legendary for all the right reasons. It’s certainly not something you see every day.
We also couldn’t overlook Adam’s Scirocco.
Compared to Karl’s Audi, the system might seem modest, but that’s exactly why it stood out. Two 15-inch BD subwoofers with custom-painted baskets formed the heart of the install, while VIBE BlackAir midrange speakers handled everything above the bass. Tasteful LED lighting finished everything off without overpowering the install itself.
It was one of those systems where every detail had clearly been thought through. Nothing felt excessive. Every component looked like it belonged there, creating a build that was just as enjoyable to look at as it was to listen to.
Throughout the weekend we saw plenty of different approaches to car audio. Some owners chased outright bass, others focused on sound quality, while many aimed for the best of both worlds. That’s one of the things we enjoy most about events like Modified Nationals. There isn’t one right answer. Every builder has their own ideas, and seeing those ideas brought to life is half the fun.
One of the biggest moments of the weekend came when YouTuber Adam Francis unveiled his latest experimental EDGE project.
Rather than following the traditional route, the car features a unique infinite baffle setup using EDGE 15-inch subwoofers. It’s an unconventional design that challenges a lot of the usual thinking around enclosure construction, making it one of the most talked-about builds of the show. If you haven’t already seen it, it’s well worth checking out his video for a closer look at the project and how it performed throughout the weekend.
Of course, the show doesn’t end when the trade stands close.
That’s one of the things that makes Modified Nationals different from a typical Sunday car meet.
As the sun starts to set, thousands of people head back towards the camping areas, grab some food, catch up with friends and settle in for another evening. Cars that have been sitting quietly all day suddenly come to life. Bonnets go up, demo vehicles start making noise and groups gather around some of the biggest builds at the event.
There’s a genuine festival atmosphere in the evenings. Music drifts across the campsite, people wander between club stands or off to the entertainment areas with live music, conversations continue long into the evening and there’s always another interesting project parked a few rows over. It’s one of those rare events where you can spend an entire day walking around and still discover something new after sunset. Weekend ticket holders get access to live evening entertainment too, which keeps the atmosphere going well after the main show has finished for the day.
We thought we’d contribute a little entertainment of our own. As the evenings arrived, we fired up the VIBE bass tunnel.
If you’ve never experienced it before, it’s difficult to explain. Built over 20 years ago, our demo truck houses 40 BlackAir subwoofers and remains one of the most unique demo vehicles we’ve ever produced. Despite its age, it still turns heads wherever it goes. There’s something about standing inside the tunnel while all 40 subwoofers come to life that simply can’t be recreated through a phone screen or YouTube video.
You don’t just hear it.
You feel it.
Watching people’s reactions never gets old. Some laugh, some can’t stop grinning and others immediately queue back up for another go. Even after all these years, it continues to remind people why live demos are such a huge part of car audio culture.
As another Modified Nationals came to a close, it was clear why this event remains one of the biggest dates in the UK modified calendar. It’s a brilliant mix of incredible cars, car audio, entertainment and a community that genuinely enjoys spending the weekend together. Whether you come for the show cars, the demos, the camping or simply to catch up with friends, there’s something here for everyone.
